IAU seeks a new Secretary General (January 16)

 The International Association of Universities (IAU), a membership organization of more than 650 universities and university organizations from around the world, is seeking candidates for the position of Secretary General.

 The IAU is an independent international Non-Governmental Organization, based at UNESCO in Paris, France. Founded in 1950, the IAU is an official partner of UNESCO (associate status), led by an elected President and an Administrative Board of 20 higher education leaders from as many countries.

 The Japan Association of National Universities (JANU) has been joining the IAU as a member organization.

The Selection

 The Secretary General will be selected through an open and transparent process undertaken by a Selection Committee composed of IAU Administrative Board members and chaired by the IAU President. Administratively, the recruitment process is coordinated, on behalf of the IAU, by the University of London Institute in Paris.

Minimum requirements for ideal candidate for position as IAU Secretary General

Education:

– Post graduate degree (doctorate desirable but not obligatory)

Professional experience:

– Minimum 10 years’ working experience at a senior management/executive level

– Strong record of leadership preferably in a membership organisation, a higher education institution, an international NGO or government service

– Knowledge of several higher education systems

– Management of multi-cultural team of professionals

– Experience in project development and fundraising

– Expertise in at least one of the IAU’s priority thematic areas

– International network of contacts and ability to work with higher education leaders

Knowledge and skills:

– Fluent in English with strong knowledge of the second official language (French)

– Excellent analytical, communication and writing skills

– Inter-cultural sensitivity, respect for other perspectives and good people-skills

– Flexibility and creativity

– Capacity to deal with multiple demands and set priorities

 

 Willingness to travel extensively and willingness to relocate
