ACE Vice President for Global Affairs Visits JANU (June 21, 2017)
On June 21, 2017, Mr. Brad Farnsworth, Vice President of the Center for Internationalization and Global Engagement at the American Council on Education (ACE) visited the Japan Association of National Universities (JANU) for a dialogue and to exchange opinions.
Established in Washington D.C. in 1918, the ACE is an organization that manages and coordinates associations for higher education all over the US, and represents a higher education community. The organization consists of approximately 1,800 college and university presidents and the executives at related associations.
Mr. Hideki Iwabuchi, Director, Office for International Planning, Higher Education Bureau, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) attended the meeting, together with Prof. Caroline Fern Benton, Vice President and Executive Director for Global Affairs, University of Tsukuba and Mr. Yoshiaki Sato, Vice Executive Director for Global Affairs, University of Tsukuba.
At the meeting, the JANU gave an outline of their organization, in addition to discussing their activities for international exchanges and the issues facing higher education in Japan. Afterward, Prof. Benton made a presentation on efforts for international exchanges by University of Tsukuba, and Mr. Farnsworth gave an outline of the ACE and their activities for international exchanges. After the presentations, opinions on future cooperation and partnership between the ACE and the JANU were actively exchanged.
The JANU will proactively make efforts for creating more interactions in the future.
